Problem

Most participants live on the coastline but have never surfed before joining the program and many can't swim. Formal water safety education is limited across the Greater Cederberg region, leaving kids at real drowning risk despite living beside the ocean.

Solution

Structured, coach-led water safety and drowning prevention certification is built into every ocean session. Not in a separate class but part of the same weekly programming delivered five days a week, at no cost to participants.

Results

400+ young people have completed drowning prevention and water safety certification since the program began. In-water safety instruction is now a core, recurring part of every session rather than a one-time add-on.
